Introduction to Oktoberfest
Oktoberfest is the world’s largest “Volksfest” (public festival) and famous for its beer. Held annually in Munich, Bavaria, from mid-September to the first week in October, the event attracts more than seven million international and national visitors at its peak. Locally, the festival is called Wiesn, after the colloquial name for the fairgrounds, Theresienwiese.
Oktoberfest is an important part of local culture in Germany, having been held since 1810.
The festival features large quantities of Oktoberfest beer served in traditional steins, with up to 7.5 million liters served every year. Visitors enjoy numerous attractions, such as amusement rides, side stalls, and games. Pretzels are a key food offering, and traditional foods are widely available during the festival, including pork knuckles, half a chicken, and other traditional Bavarian cuisine to eat. Most attendees wear traditional Bavarian attire such as dirndl and lederhosen. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned attendee, Oktoberfest offers a unique blend of history, culture, and festivity that welcomes everyone.
Oktoberfest is a celebration of life, bringing people together from all over Europe and neighboring towns. Dancing is a key part of the celebration, adding to the lively atmosphere and making unforgettable memories.

All about table reservation for Oktoberfest tables
Oktoberfest Table Reservations
1. How to Reserve a Table in a Beer Tent for Oktoberfest 2025
The beer tent reservation site serves as a central location for your Oktoberfest experience, offering access to accommodation, partying, and social events right at the heart of the festival. Table reservations for the large and small beer tents at Oktoberfest 2025 will typically open in spring, around April or May, with each tent operating its own reservation process. Reservations are not made centrally; instead, you must book directly through the website or contact information of the specific tent you wish to visit. The process usually involves submitting a reservation request, waiting for confirmation, and then paying for the required consumption vouchers (usually two beers and half a roast chicken per person). Once confirmed, you’ll receive tokens and, if needed, wristbands for entry. It’s important to act quickly, as reservations—especially for evenings and weekends—are in high demand and often prioritized for regular guests. From certain reserved areas, you can even watch the opening parade as it passes by, adding to the excitement of your visit.

2. Tips for Finding Free Seats Without a Reservation
You do not need a reservation to enter the beer tents at Oktoberfest, and a significant portion of seats are kept unreserved for walk-in guests. By regulation, at least 25% of seats in the large tents are always unreserved, and on weekends or public holidays, this rises to 35–50% before 3 p.m. However, finding a free seat can be challenging during peak times. To increase your chances, visit on weekdays before 4 p.m., avoid peak evenings and Saturdays, and consider splitting your group into smaller parties. Staff can sometimes help you find available spots, and being friendly with other guests can also help you squeeze in. If tents are full, the beer gardens outside or the Oide Wiesn area (which has a small entry fee) can be good alternatives.
3. Rules, Costs, and Common Pitfalls of Beer Tent Reservations
Reservations in beer tents are free of charge, but there is a mandatory minimum consumption—typically two beers and half a chicken per person, with additional vouchers required in some tents or for certain areas (like boxes or galleries). For specialty tents like Käfer Wiesnschänke and Weinzelt, the minimum consumption is significantly higher, especially after 2 p.m. or on weekends. Reservation fees are capped at €1.50 per person, and additional charges are prohibited. Reservations are usually for a fixed time slot (at least three hours), not the whole day. It is illegal to buy or sell reservations through third parties or resellers—always book directly with the tent to avoid scams. If you are traveling with a group, consider organized trips that include table reservations, transportation, and guided festival experiences for added convenience. If you miss out on a reservation, the official Oktoberfest-Booking.com portal provides a secure secondary market for exchanging or acquiring legitimate reservations at face value.

When can you book for the Oktoberfest “Wiesn” 2025?
You can make a binding booking with us today and we guarantee our tables for Oktoberfest 2025. This is only possible because, as true Munich locals, we have had our company and our reservations for over 15 years. We are real regular guests and therefore enjoy a few advantages …
Do I really need a reservation for the Oktoberfest (beer halls)?
You don’t need tickets to visit the Wiesn and its festival tents. The large beer tents are very busy, especially in the evening (i.e. the party time in the tents). Especially on Friday evenings and Saturdays, tents are likely to be closed due to overcrowding. If this is the case, only guests with a reservation will be admitted. Reservations must be guaranteed, which is why at least two Oktoberfest beers (2 liters) and a menu (starter = bread board and main course) must be purchased in advance. This is only possible with a customer number at the respective festival tent / beer hall.
What is the typical itinerary for a visit to the Oktoberfest?
We usually meet in the afternoon for a guided tour, walk of about 1.5 hours over the Theresienwiese (Oktoberfest festival area). Then we go through the special reservation entrance into one of the big festival tents (Schottenhamel / Armbrustschützenzelt are our tents). The party goes on until 10:30 pm and of course there is delicious Bavarian food and the world-famous festival beer.
When will Oktoberfest take place in 2025?
The Oktoberfest festival of the state capital Munich will start in 2025, with the 190th Oktoberfest – it will take place on the Theresienwiese from September 20 to October 5.
Is there an official source from the city of Munich or for the Oktoberfest?
